A Captivating Song and a Captivating Story: Meet Victoria Robertson
Since she first began singing for audiences at The Westgate in 2020, Victoria Robertson has garnered a reputation for her soulful voice and her humorous stories. Loved by hotel guests and local regulars, Victoria’s diverse musical background appeals to a wide audience. While her voice is characterized by a unique blend of folk and classical influences, she performs a collection of favorite songs that spans across many genres every Thursday. Known equally for her folk stylings as for her operatic abilities, Victoria orchestrates a special performance each final Thursday of the month called “The Secret Opera Room.” On these nights, she brings guest opera singers to perform with her for a beautiful evening of opera.
A Little Bit of Everything from the Great American Songbook: Meet Mikan Zlatkovich
Mikan Zlatkovich is a virtuoso jazz pianist with a distinguished career. Presenting a broad repertoire of songs, from jazz and blues standards to classic ballads and pop songs to Bossa Nova and Samba stylings, Mikan’s music is always evolving through his never-ending search for new creative possibilities. Starting his career as a professional jazz artist as a teenager, Mikan’s musical chemistry and well-honed skills captivate and welcome audiences into his music. He deeply understands the power of music to transcend language and cultural barriers, and is always excited to share the magic of jazz.
A Cross-Cultural, Community-Driven Experience: Meet Carlos Velasco.
Carlos Velasco is a conservatory-trained guitarist from Mexico City. The son of a mariachi, Carlos blends the many rhythms of Mexico with other South American styles. He sings in multiple languages, including Brazilian Portuguese, French, English, and Italian. Carlos is always evolving as a guitarist and singer, and has developed a beautifully unique style of Latin Jazz that combines folkloric elements with original material. In his performances at The Westgate, Carlos nurtures the Bohemian spirit that bridges the border between Southern California and Mexico, especially during his Latin Open Mic that draws the best singers in the region to The Westgate’s Plaza Bar.
A New York City Kind of Night Out: Meet Adam Wolff
Adam Wolff was raised in New York and Chicago, beginning his study of classical piano performance, music theory, and creative musical expression when he was 8 years old. He returned to New York City in the 1980’s, and spent many years as a full-time musician in Manhattan. Having been a member of the creative community in San Diego since the 1990’s, Adam has performed with groups, ranging from jazz to popular dance music to creative expression performances. His music is exciting and soulful, no matter who he is playing alongside. At The Westgate, Adam regularly performs with The Adam Wolff Trio, featuring a rotating lineup of San Diego’s finest jazz bassists and drummers accompanying Adam’s piano. Bringing a swinging energy, The Adam Wolff Trio combines the intimate atmosphere with cool jazz, bringing to mind the New York clubs Adam played for many years.
